Welcome to the Dunedin Athenaeum & Mechanic’s Institute – a lending library, in the heart of the Octagon for over 150 years!

We welcome members of all ages and have a wide range of books across all genre and are particularly proud of our up-to-date catalogue of contemporary fiction. We also have a large number of New Zealand titles, both literary and non-fiction, from the early-mid 20th century and beyond.

Our online catalogue is available to browse, and members can easily place hold requests to then collect their book/s at their convenience.
